Returning to the original thrust of this thread .........

I've just spent some very productive time with a retired Costambar restaurant owner. He confirmed my theory that there is sufficient demand in town for a good quality restaurant. Indeed he intimated that he was making a VERY good living doing just that.

So a professional restaurant WOULD be a worthy addition to our community & a viable business.

Thanks for your message of support austin, it mirrors what the community has been telling us :-)

These people are insignificant in the grand scheme of things, it's easy to spout rubbish on the internet from thousands of miles away. We've got enough experience of these things to know that internet bullies get bored very qucikly, I believe it's a genetic malfunction lol.

Now the "lunatics have left the asylum" maybe we can return to the original thread.

On the topic of what's missing from town, I've had people suggest live music. Maybe some nice jazz or good local musicians.

What do you think folks?

Hi Austin
There is a fantastic cafe lol its part owned by me, and we dont have seedy bars on our town karioke is all good ( some of the singers might be seedy lol but not the bars) there is a good supermarket and a few good places to eat, plenty of nice places to stay, the biggest problem in Costambar is the power or lack of it !!!! but with a good backup system your ok.
if you go on google there is plenty of info about us and i can recomend retirement here me and the hubby did just that just over 3 years ago

How interesting! Something has obviously taken place. That is what I love about Costambar you never know what you are going to find from year to year :-) Toujours des nouvelle chose et une nouvelle annee.
You of course who live there year round must not feel amused :-(
We had taken up a collection and bought a bunch of very good chairs for Mass I hope they are still there because they could be used for APC Meetings
Thank you for your input Anette I wish other people would be as forthcoming

Suzanne, I am talking about the whole property. Everything has been cut down around the club and Cristian told me, that they removed the garbage inside and around the building.
I did not go into the property - I only passed along!
Cristian told me, that they had met with Cesar Jose de los Santos and he is apparently now the only owner of that club. (How? and why? - I don’t know!)
Nobody has been talking about painting or other kind of maintenance.
Only the disgusting pool, which they say will be cleaned too! Very Happy

Another mystery :-) I do know and have seen with my own eyes the inside of the building being cleaned and painted the past two years The fire Dept even came with their hoses to clean the floor. Listen it could be Cesar they got permission from not Juan Carlos. I always thought that three people owned that property. De Los Santos, Morales and I can't think of the third at the moment but that could have changed in the past couple of years. Anette are we speaking of the inside of the Building or the property around it? I am only speaking of the inside of the building if the surrounding Property has been cleaned that could well be Vallerinos people.

Suzanne, about the cleaning of the old country club I have investigated a little.

I don’t know where you have the information from, that the people in charge of the Mass at that place have cleaned up the place??(Maybe they cleaned something there in the past??)

I just spoke to Cristian, who is in charge of the maintenance of Los Mangos and he just told me, that Los Mangos did the job alone, with the help from nobody else!!
According to him the club does not belong to Morales any longer - it belongs to Cesar Jose de los Santos and Los Mangos have talked to him in order to get the place cleaned.

ONLY workers from Los Mangos have cleaned the surroundings and the inside of the club. (it was recently!).
Now they will proceed to clean up the pool Cristian told me.

This is the information I just received and why would somebody say they have done a job if they haven’t? This is strange!
(I just want to give the right people the credit for the job - to be fair!) Very Happy

Suzanne thanks for your kind comments about the bar, I'm glad we're doing something right, it makes all the hard work seem worthwhile :-)

Now moving on to the question of a Country Club/Community Centre, it would indeed be a worthy addition to the town, but I question its' viability in Costambar. As you have both acknowledged, we have an element among the residents & visitors here who would not be interested in such a place, & some who would support it. As always it is economics that is the over-riding factor. From my experience to run such a project properly the overhead - staff, security, power etc - would be US$1,000+ per month. Believe me that would be a scary amount of money to have to find each month in the low season!

Maybe if we re-phrase the question to - "What would you like local businesses to offer in addition to their existing services?"

I know that any self-respecting, half competent businessman would jump at the chance to offer his customers additional services at quiet times. I try to tailor the Gym Bar to my customers' wishes, for example I have music ranging from jazz thru swing & big band, latin, russian & more modern "party" music to suit the moods of my customers at any time of the day or night. My job is to satisfy customer demand, but to receive first you have to give.

Let's maximise what we already have in Costambar.

Please give the businesses in your town some suggestions folks ...

Suzanne, if you know for sure, who cleaned up the old Country Club I was definitely given a wrong information. That is weird! Why would they tell me at Los Mangos that they did it, if it is not thru? I will call and check that tomorrow for sure!
But nice done ( whomever were in charge)! The old club was really nasty with a dirty pool and lots of garbage..

You know Suzanne, I am actually “only” disappointed ! I really believed that we could make things better and I really believed that people could talk to each other. I don’t think it has much to do with different nationalities. It has more to do with too many egos (my way or highway!)
I have definitely given up trying to understand why it is sooooo impossible to agree or just to respect each other.
And you are right: It is even hart to make people read and write to this forum. So I don’t expect anything from anybody in this community any longer!

No I am not one of the people who want to build a Church in Costambar definitely not I am happy to go to to Mass in town.
We do and have had Mass at the old Country Club and it is the people who are in charge of having the Mass every Sunday who have cleaned up the building of the old Country Club and have done a great job. I was given to undersdand that it is with the permission of Juan Carlos Morales and.... somehow the Bishop of Puerto Plata features in this, (that is only hearsay) but we definitely have had Mass there every Sunday in season, who knows what will happen this winter.
I do believe that we can afford a Community Club even the APC office could be located in the building, it's been discussed many times.
You know Anette I understand your scepticism about Costambar, where we differ is that you think Costambar was once a different place I do not, to me it has always been as it is now, some good things some bad, not always the same good nor the same bad. What plagues us is that people so often do not get along. maybe it is because we are from so many countries and so many different backgrounds. Mark is right if we got along better we would accomplish much more, there is always hope :-) Not much though :-)
Look how hard it is to get people to post to this Forum :-)

PostSubject: Re: Something positive to discuss   Something positive to discuss Icon_minitimeSat Dec 04, 2010 12:29 pm

I actually forgot something in my last message.

I realized that the old country club has been cleaned down completely and you can even see the installations from the street. (not that they are nice looking, but…)
I was told by Mr. Ortiz, who is working at Los Mangos, that they have made some kind of deal with the owners of the property, to make it look decent and apparently the place was cleaned by Los Mangos. Maybe somebody knows more about this.. Or I will try to find out more myself.

A while ago I informed that the wall was broken (behind Lóase) and everybody was walking right into Costambar. It is closed now - properly done with blocs and cement.
I don’t know who did that, but nice done!

Back to Suzanne’s message:
You are writing that it would be nice with a community center belonging to the residents paying a modest fee.

I agree with you: It would be very nice! However a modest fee cannot pay for such a club, especially if you don’t have plenty of members.
Think about the costs please: Employees are expensive, the area has to be maintained and cleaned daily and watched by security employees 24 hours. Electricity and water supply.Maintenance of a pool or other installations.
Who is supposed to pay for all that if the residents should only pay a modest fee?

I understand your idea Suzanne and it would be wonderful, however I do believe we have to be realistic. We have to be aware of the fact that many residents in Costambar don’t have money for things like that. I know people here, who cannot even afford to paint their house once in a while!
I understand that many of you would like to have a church in Costambar. Why don’t you get together and speak to Mr. Vallarino, because I do know that his wife, his sister and himself were talking about a little church would be nice.. Maybe together you could do that - and I guess it doesn’t need to be a huge and expensive church.
