The issue of Camino Peatonal is one of illegal construction on the site. The President, Jose Polanco and Sandro Falla, with others, have been down there to check on the development. Right now, Jose Polanco is trying to get a letter from the Ayuntmiento de Puerto Plata stating construction is illegal and on land belonging to Costambar. Only then can we proceed to demolish the houses.
There are no plans to build a walking road through to the beach. The cost is prohibitive, estimated at approximately one million peso, with a yearly maintenance cost of half a million. The area is prone to flooding. It would require yet another Guard. Also, it is highly unlikely that we could prevent people entering through the main gate, as this is a public beach. When the previous Board raised the Sunday entrance fee we were taken to Court and prohibited from charging a fee.
